Francis S. Collins, both an exceptional physician and a leader in the scientific community has made recognizable and vital advances in the field of health and medicine. He has distinguished his career by not only obtaining a B.S., M.D and P.h.D., but also by leading the campaign to discover and unravel the scientific mystery surrounding the human genome. As former director of the Human Genome Project, Francis Collins conducted crucial research that identified the genes that cause cystic fibrosis, neurofibromatosis, Huntington’s disease and Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome. This discovery alone makes Francis Collins one of the top scientists in the world and his work has advanced the field of science and health. His quest to improve human health has proven highly successful and as such, he has been hand selected by President Obama to lead the National Institutes of Health (NIH). An experienced and proven leader in the scientific community, Francis Collins has the skills and capability to provide guidance to the NIH in order to develop further accomplishments in medicine and science.

Improving the health of others has been central to his work, which shows with the volunteer work that he has continually provided to the community with his extensive scientific knowledge and experience. In addition to all of these accomplishments, Francis Collins has also been recognized by the New York Times, as he is a published author, with a book integrating science and faith noted as a best seller. For all his work, Collins has been given several awards and has been noted time and again for his landmark accomplishments. Francis Collins has been given the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Kilby International Award and has been selected as a member of the Institute of Medicine, in addition to his current role as the National Institutes of Health Director. There is no doubt that Francis Collins will continue to contribute research and make advancements in his relentless and dedicated pursuit of scientific discovery, in order to improve health and the human condition.
